The idea for a family tree mural began with Kathy, who had envisioned commissioning a hand‑painted version by Jing’s sister, an art student. When that plan shifted as Jing’s sister returned to China to finish school, Josh and Jing gifted a vinyl tree mural, knowing it would fulfill the same vision. Kathy applied the mural to a textured wall, securing it with Mod Podge and glue, and arranged the layout. Randy selected the clear frames and helped choose the photographs that now hang among the branches. The mural continues to grow, with more frames and branches planned, echoing the way the family itself expands. Above it, the inscription reads: “Family: like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.”
The Family Tree mural has become a focal point in the home. Family members and visitors instinctively stop to look at the photographs, sharing memories and stories as they trace the branches. It is both an artwork and a gathering place, reminding us that family history is best experienced together.
