In September 2020, when the world was still shuttered and quiet, we found our escape on the Washington Peninsula. With so much closed, the open road and the wild places became our celebration—camping, wandering, and breathing in the freedom of being outside together. It was Randy’s birthday, and it was also the year of our 40th anniversary. The cruise we had planned was canceled, but this journey became our own kind of voyage, a week of waterfalls, beaches, forests, and laughter.
At Hurricane Ridge, we paused to take in the sweep of mountains and sky, capturing the photograph that would become this three‑panel print. The word “hurricane” itself felt fitting—our lives in that season were a whirlwind of cancellations, distance from family, and the strange stillness of the pandemic. Yet here, in this view, we found calm and celebration.
This piece is more than a landscape. It is a marker of resilience, of love carried through uncertain times, and of the joy we chose to claim in the midst of it all.
