Moonlight Alone At Last blends surrealism with storytelling, featuring Goddard’s signature olive characters in a quiet, tender moment. Now in our moonlight years, with our children making their own way, we see ourselves in the olives, celebrating on a cliff overhanging the ocean. They have reached the end of a journey well traveled, and while they will go no further, the destination itself has become the celebration — a place where love doesn’t stop, but continues to grow, deepen, and shine even at the edge.

We first encountered this piece during our 45th anniversary cruise, and it immediately felt like a tribute to love, longevity, and the beauty of simply being together. Though playful in style, it holds a tender place in our collection — and in our hearts — reminding us that love can be lighthearted, moonlit, and ever‑growing.

Keystone Work of the Collection

Moonlight Alone At Last is the heart of our collection.  Acquired during our 45th anniversary cruise, it represents not only the most significant financial investment we have made in art, but also the deepest personal meaning. In Godard’s playful olives we see ourselves—celebrating love, longevity, and the beauty of simply being together. This work anchors the collection, embodying the themes of resilience, humor, and devotion that run throughout. Other pieces orbit around it, but this canvas is the star by which the constellation of our collection is set.
